Operator algebras were initially developed to formulate quantum mechanics, while representation theory can be used to describe the role of symmetry in quantum mechanics. Representation theory and the theory of operator algebras have both been very active research areas for a long time, with many applications besides quantum mechanics. Despite the long histories of these fields, more and more very powerful links between them have emerged in recent decades and years, and there is a huge potential for more of them to be discovered. This workshop is centred around discovering such links, and the resulting applications.
