Statistics and Mathematical Modelling in Combination

This conference will showcase research combining mathematical and statistical approaches to address real world problems, and on mathematical modelling that motivates statistical work, and vice-versa. There will be contributed talks, invited talks and discussion sessions designed to attract delegates from Australia, New Zealand, the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and North America. The conference will bring together experts from different application areas (including epidemic and ecological modelling, evolutionary biology, and animal behaviour) as well as experts on the theoretical side of statistical and mathematical modelling methodologies, providing an opportunity for identifying shared challenges and discussion of methodological advances between Australian researchers and their international colleagues.

The conference will immediately precede another event that we are running in the same location, the Forum of Mathematics for Industry (FMI, Nov 21-24), which is an annual Forum run under the auspices of the Asia Pacific Consortium of Mathematics for Industry (APCMFI), this year on the topic of “Mathematics for Health and Sustainability”. These events will also coincide with a public lecture at La Trobe University on the topic of: “The Applicability of Mathematics to the World”.

The themes of this conference, the FMI, and the public lecture are complementary, and are chosen so that speakers and attendees can participate in all three events.
