Coxeter groups and Artin groups are two prominent families of groups which are closely related to each other. A key family of examples are the braid groups and the symmetric groups, corresponding to Artin groups and Coxeter groups respectively. Led by Australian mathematicians, in recent years there have been increasing connections between distinct communities of mathematicians studying Coxeter groups and Artin groups, so that the full range of techniques from algebra, category theory, combinatorics, geometry and topology are becoming available to solve deep problems from a variety of areas. This workshop and the focus period following it at SMRI is a timely opportunity to strengthen these connections, by bringing Australian researchers together with international experts.
This MATRIX Research Program is partially supported by AMSI and AustMS through the AMSI-AustMS Workshop Funding program, and benefits from the SMRI International Visitor Program.
