An update to stakeholders from Dr Adelle Howse
Further to the communication in early May advising of the resignation of Professor Tim Brown as Director of the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) I wish to inform that Professor Brown has now completed his role as Director.
The AMSI Board is working closely with The University of Melbourne as the lead agent within our Joint Venture Partnership to appoint a new Director for AMSI. We again thank Professor Brown for his leadership and dedication to AMSI and wish him well in his future endeavours.
Professor Brown expressed his confidence in the future for AMSI, conveying his thanks to the Board, JVP and staff for their ongoing commitment to championing the mathematical sciences, and recognised the contribution of AMSI’s diverse stakeholders. “It has been a privilege to be in the middle of the mathematical sciences community again for the last 18 months. My contacts as Director of AMSI with the community in schools and higher education, research and industry all lead me to think that Australia is richly blessed with all its talent and energy in mathematical sciences. I leave hoping that AMSI will continue to enjoy the support of the Members, Government and the broader community to realise the vision that Australia values mathematics and mathematical sciences propel Australia.”
To ensure business and service continuity for its members, clients and stakeholders during a period of transition, the University of Melbourne is supporting the Institute by appointing a Chief Operating Officer for AMSI under an interim arrangement, enabling day-to-day management to continue uninterrupted pending the commencement of a new Director.
