Help us improve the mathematics education pipeline

100% of your donation will support the development of programs and resources to inspire student engagement and transform Australia’s mathematical capability.

Dear Mathematical Sciences Community,

You may have seen AMSI in the news recently, as we published a new report revealing Year 12 maths enrolments are the lowest they’ve ever been.

Just 9.2% of Year 12 students in Australia are enrolling in higher-level maths and 17.6% in intermediate maths, despite jobs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) growing significantly faster than other occupations.

This long-term decline of maths-skilled graduates is at crisis level, and we need your help to reverse the trend.

As Australia’s not-for-profit peak body for the mathematical sciences, AMSI has the expertise to deliver key classroom and pipeline strategies to transform Australia’s mathematical capability – from foundation years through to careers.

Your donation, big or small, can help us:

  • Advocate, support and deliver programs that promote increased participation in Year 12 maths
  • Demonstrate the link between studying maths and the jobs of tomorrow
  • Promote the strategic importance of maths for Australia’s innovation capability, productivity and global competitiveness

This year’s Year 12 graduates are the 30-year-olds of 2034. Every cohort that experiences declining maths enrolments is another generation lacking the skills to keep up with the fastest growing jobs that will change the world.

Will you help us tackle Australia’s maths crisis?

Thank you for valuing education and a mathematically-trained workforce.

Best regards,

Professor Tim Marchant
Director, AMSI
