The University of Bristol has announced Professor Geoffrey Grimmett FRS as the new Chair of the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research (HIMR).
Professor Grimmett previous work includes chairing the independent review by the Australian Council for Education Research (ACER) of AMSI’s 2016-20 ‘Securing Australia’s Mathematical Workforce’ (SAMW) funded programs, and the 2012-16 review of AMSI’s Vacation Schools and Scholarships Grant program. Funding of both programs was subsequently renewed by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment.
The Heilbronn Institute is a highly respected national centre supporting research in the mathematical sciences across the United Kingdom. Professor Grimmett will be responsible for shaping HIMR’s profile as an internationally leading research institute, making a significant contribution to strengthening the UK mathematics community.
