AMSI Yuille-Umbers Female High School Scholarships provide support and mentoring to female students completing Specialist Mathematics in Year 11 and 12, with a focus on under-represented groups.

Seeking to address the ongoing problem of low participation rates of female students in specialist maths, the scholarships will support selected Victorian female school students with resources and mentoring to continue the pursuit of school maths at the most advanced level.

This support for more female students to complete specialist mathematics in years 11 and 12 will provide a springboard toward higher education and open doors to the broadening scope of careers that require mathematical literacy.

Scholarship recipients will have access to support from the AMSI in-house maths teaching specialist, the opportunity to attend AMSI programs, meet current university maths students and industry partners – to be inspired by all that continuing to study maths has to offer.

You can donate to the Yuille-Umbers Female High School Scholarships through the AMSI Foundation donation portal. All donations of $2 or more to the AMSI Foundation Yuille Umbers Scholarships are tax-deductible. This means that when you contribute to this scholarship fund, you can claim a tax deduction for your donation on your income tax return.

Apply for the AMSI Foundation Yuille-Umbers Female Specialist Maths High School Scholarships

The Scholarships will provide support and mentoring to Victorian female high school students completing Specialist Mathematics in Years 11 and 12, with a focus on under-represented groups.

Scholarships are for two-years, valued at $3000 per year.

Scholarship benefits and opportunities:

• Materials and resources required to study specialist maths.
• Mentorship and guidance from leading mathematics experts.
• Participate in AMSI programs and events.
• Network with female university maths students.
• Network with female maths graduates in amazing jobs.
• We will cover virual schooling if the candidate’s registered school does not offer specialist mathematics.

Key Scholarship Selection Criteria:

• Female students who complete year 10 in 2024, who;
• Intend to study specialist maths in year 11 in 2025 and year 12 in 2026.
• Are studying at an eligible registered Victorian high school
  (school ICSEA percentile ≤ 46 refer to myschool website)
• Is experiencing and can evidence disadvantage.
• Can provide evidence of strong performance in mathematics.
• Demonstrates a passion for and achievement in mathematics.

Scholarship assessment key dates 2024:

• Applications open Thursday, 1 August.
• Applications close Wednesday, 30 October.
• Interviews will occur in late November.
• Scholarship recipients announced mid-December.
