The `Winter of Disconnectedness’ program will run from July – August, 2016. The subject will be totally disconnected, locally compact groups. Rapid progress is being made with the understanding of general groups of this type, which includes important classes such as p-adic Lie groups, automorphism groups of locally finite graphs, and profinite groups. Mathematicians at the forefront of current international developments will contribute to a program that will be attractive to researchers and students on totally disconnected groups specifically and in group theory and combinatorics more generally. A number of courses of instructional lectures on recently developed techniques will be offered. Several of these series of lectures will be offered nationally through the AMSI advanced collaborative environment. Individual lectures will discuss work currently in progress and survey recent advances.
