The Australian Mathematical Society is pleased to invite attendees to the Education Session of its annual conference, which will feature a panel discussion on “Teaching and Learning Maths in the Age of GenAI.” The session will explore the big-picture questions facing mathematics education in the age of GenAI: Which parts of mathematics should we continue to teach? What might we let go of? And what new areas or approaches should we emphasise? These questions will be considered in the broader context of re-evaluating the specific skills we want students to develop through their mathematical studies. The discussion will focus on high school and undergraduate university maths.
Following the GenAI panel discussion, attendees are invited to join a tour of the mathematical art exhibition submitted for display at the conference, and to participate in hands-on mathematical constructions.
The conference will be held at La Trobe University’s Bundoora campus in Melbourne, with the Education session being held on Wednesday, 10 December. The GenAI panel and art tour will run from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm, followed by afternoon tea, then mathematical constructions from 4pm-5:30pm. Attendance at the session is free, but registration is required at https://austms2025.org.au/registration/. Choose “Register here” then select the Education session, on Wednesday.
