AMSI Summer School 2017 was held for the fifteenth year in January at The University of Sydney, with a record number of 168 students attending the school. As one of AMSI’s flagship higher-education events, the Summer School featured eight honours-level courses delivered by eminent lecturers from around Australia. The four-week program, designed for honours and postgraduate students, also attracted undergraduates, early-career researchers and industry professionals in the mathematical sciences and cognate disciplines.
Officially opened by AMSI Board Chair Dr Ron Sandland, Summer School 2017 offered attendees the opportunity to study one or two courses, and areas of mathematics and statistics that may not have been available at their home university. Attendees were encouraged to meet and build collaborative networks throughout the School, which was achieved through the diverse lecture and tutorial/lab course program, as well as a variety of program extras from a public lecture through to a careers afternoon and a number of social events.
