Maths and STEM teachers, and careers advisors were among the attendees at our recent Industry Day for Teachers in Albury-Wodonga held on 10 September. Hosted by La Trobe University, the event was an opportunity for education providers to learn more about the career and study opportunities available to maths students.
The event featured a morning of industry and higher education speakers who provided insights into tertiary study options and STEM careers available to mathematics students. In the afternoon, attendees were invited to a site visit at Surfbee to see how they use mathematics to develop autonomous surface vehicles for water monitoring and surveying.
The event provided an opportunity for rural and regional teachers to come together for professional development and networking and was well received by attendees.
“Thank you to everyone involved in the Industry Day yesterday at Albury-Wodonga. The event was extremely well organised and very informative. The presenters were extremely approachable and very generous with their time,” said one attendee.
Speakers also provided enthusiastic feedback about the event, with one particularly highlighting the importance of these events in rural areas, and the opportunity the provide for teachers outside of the metro areas.
Attendees collected a certificate and a show bag full of goodies, including a TI-30X Plus MathPrint scientific calculator thanks to Texas Instruments.
