On Tuesday 9 September, we held our first regional Industry Day for Teachers at La Trobe University, Bendigo. The event was filled with insightful discussions, engaging talks on the exciting career opportunities available to students who study mathematics, and invaluable professional learning experiences.
In the morning, we heard from speakers Casey Barczynski (Agnico Eagle Mines), David Sheehan (Coliban Water), and AMSI alum Jade Bujeya (AC3) who shared how maths skills shape their careers. The afternoon featured Matt George (Mildura Rural City Council), Ben Kemp and Brendan Jones (Bortana Automotive), Dr Pauline Rogers (One Basin CRC), Dr Toen Castle (La Trobe University, Bendigo) and Leanne McMahon (AMSI Schools) on the role of teachers in building self-efficacy and confidence in students to reduce maths anxiety.
Thank you to everyone who joined in-person and online, our speakers and La Trobe University, Bendigo.
Next stop: Deakin University, Warrnambool – Wednesday 8 October
