Victoria University invites you to the following presentation by Dr Tahsin Saffat on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 3.30pm (AEST).

Abstract: Hecke algebras arise in math as algebras of correspondences. We will discuss some important examples from modular forms and flag varieties. Then we specialize to the affine Hecke algebra and its two dual realizations. We will explain how this is an instance of the general principle Langlands duality.

Finally, we will discuss some open problems on the spectral decomposition of Eisenstein series under affine Hecke operators.

Bio: Dr. Tahsin Saffat is a researcher in geometric representation theory. He received his Bachelor of Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA and his PhD from University of California, Berkeley in 2024.
