AMSI Congratulates Deputy Director on Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award
The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) congratulates its Deputy Director, Professor Stephan Tillmann, on receiving the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
The Humboldt Foundation, based in Germany, promotes international academic cooperation between scientists and scholars from Germany and abroad through the Humboldt network. Each year, up to 20 Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Awards are awarded to internationally renowned academics from abroad in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments in research.
Professor Tillmann studied mathematics and philosophy in Mainz (Germany) and Melbourne. He is a Professor of Geometric Topology at the University of Sydney, and was appointed Deputy Director of AMSI in February 2021. Professor Tillmann will also take up the position of Executive Director of the University of Sydney’s Mathematical Research Institute (SMRI) from January 2022.
