On Wednesday 18 June, we held our second Industry Day for Teachers event for 2025 at Swinburne University of Technology and Bunnings HQ!

The event began with inspiring presentations from Swinburne alumni, now working across a diverse range of industries including Australian Super, MinterEllison, and Dassault Systèmes. They shared how their unique academic journeys led them to careers that rely on mathematics and STEM-related skills every day. AMSI’s Schools Liaison, Leanne McMahon, followed with a thought-provoking presentation on how teachers can help build students confidence in mathematics, and strategies to reduce maths anxiety.

In the afternoon, attendees visited the Bunnings National Support Centre, where they heard from 10 Bunnings team members across various roles, from Business Development and Loss Prevention to Network Planning and Visual Merchandise. Each speaker demonstrated how maths underpins their ability to assess return on investment and navigate complex industry challenges.

Special thanks to our presenters: AMSI Director Prof. Tim Marchant, Prof. Enzo Palombo, Prof. Federico Frascoli, Dr Emily Cook and Prof. Paul Hernandez Martinez from Swinburne University of Technology, Meghna Aggarwal (Country Fire Authority), Oliver Clemenston (Australian Super), Dr Adrian L Malec (MinterEllison), Joseph Widago (Dassault Systèmes) and Leanne McMahon (AMSI). We appreciate everyone who came along and helped make this such a valuable experience for high school maths, STEM and careers teachers (including those out-of-field).

Our next event will be held at Deakin University, Warrnambool on Tuesday 12 August, with two more events also taking place in regional Victora. Learn more and register: https://amsi.org.au/amsi-industry-day-for-teachers/
