On Tuesday 13 May, we held our first Industry Day for Teachers event for 2025 at RMIT University and Telstra.
It was a privilege to connect high school maths, STEM and career teachers from across Victoria with tertiary educators and industry professionals to explore the critical role of mathematics in future careers. This professional development event provided attendees with essential insights into the growing demand for mathematics and statistics in the workforce, the increasing range and scope of careers that rely on these skills, and the educational pathways that lead to these professions.
The event was filled with insightful discussions, multiple Q&A sessions, and invaluable professional learning experiences. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this experience truly valuable! With gratitude to our incredible industry partner Telstra who educated attendees on the exciting career opportunities available to students when they continue to study mathematics, and provided real-world examples of how maths can be applied to solve complex problems and drive innovation. Your expertise and support to advancing opportunities for high school maths and STEM students is greatly appreciated.
Special thanks to our presenters Professor Mark Osborn, Professor Inge Koch and Mabel Chen from RMIT University, Dr Santosh Kaur (CEO SmartHeal , Dave Scerri (CEO Biarri) and Leanne McMahon who demonstrated the link between student’s mathematics learning and careers to help increase participation rates in mathematics. This event was proudly funded by The Invergowrie Foundation.
Our next event will be held at Swinburne University of Technology on Wednesday 18 June, with three more events also taking place in regional Victora. Learn more and register: https://amsi.org.au/amsi-industry-day-for-teachers/
