The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) congratulates Université Laval’s Dr Jean-Marie De Koninck as the 2016 recipient of the Margaret Sinclair Memorial Award Recognising Innovation and Excellence in Mathematics Education.

An entertaining and engaging mathematics educator and communicator, Dr De Koninck’s passion and skill have brought maths to life for academics, educators, parents, students and the general community for over four decades.

AMSI Schools Program Manager, Janine McIntosh has applauded Dr De Koninck’s inclusion as a recipient, describing him as a global ambassador for mathematics education and outreach. Speaking to award organisers she praised his ability to open up the world of maths and invite everyone ‘to join him in exploring its beauty and usefulness’.

During a visit to AMSI in 2013, Dr De Koninck developed the idea for an international mathematics outreach conference with Janine McIntosh and AMSI Director, Geoff Prince. This dream was realised in November 2015 when 25 international outreach proponents met to showcase their work in Banff, Alberta, Canada. https://www.birs.ca/events/2015/5-day-workshops/15w5101
