The announcement this week that the Square Kilometre Array will be partially situated in Australia is testament to our position as a leader in scientific research and innovation.
“We congratulate our colleagues in radio astronomy on this triumph. Now we have to tune our children’s intellectual antennae to the maths and science wavelength. And importantly, we must convince their parents that the spectrum of careers open to science and maths graduates is both broad and exciting,” said Professor Geoff Prince, AMSI Director.
The SKA project is a major investment in Australian science that will deliver big bang for the buck and dish up groundbreaking research opportunities for the nation’s scientists and mathematicians.
It will also provide an avenue of inspiration for the next generation of scientists and mathematicians, whose skills will be critical to Australia’s future productivity and prosperity.
