The workshop will bring together Australian and international experts to develop the emerging connections between the traditionally disparate fields of abstract algebra and C*-algebras and symbolic dynamics. The close relationship between shifts of finite type, graph C*-algebras and Leavitt path algebras has generated massive international research interest over the last few years, but the striking similarities between the three fields remain poorly understood; even more so the subtle differences. The workshop will investigate the role of graded K-theory as a tool for explaining both.
