The Australian, 15 June 2016. Biarri Chief Executive and AMSI Industry Advisory Committee member, Mr Joe Forbes, believes Australia needs to call time on its ‘old and dusty’ view of mathematics. In his recent interview with journalist, Katherine Towers, he revealed that industry is struggling to meet demand for mathematical skills with fewer students pursuing the subject as a career pathway. With Australia’s mathematics deficit deepening, Mr Forbes has called on the discipline to address its growing image problem, as well as improve student engagement and careers awareness to protect future innovation capacity.
