The Australian Bureau of Statistics is leading the recruitment for the 2024 Australian Government Graduate Program (AGGP) – Data Stream. This year, they are looking to recruit over 300 data graduates for more than 40 Australian Government and Commonwealth agencies. More details about the roles, and information for applicants are included in this document 2024 Data Grad Information For Applicants
Applications are now open and close on Monday 17 April 2023. To apply, see AGGP Data stream application.
Type of Roles:
Data Generalists – Data roles filled thorough this stream include Data Analysts, Data Engineers, Data Managers and Geospatial Analysts. There are no requirements for any degrees or disciplines, though people who have undertaken data subjects are more likely to be successful. The types of backgrounds our graduates are from include analytics, actuarial studies, data science or mining, demography, economics, econometrics, engineering, finance, mathematics or mathematical modelling, machine learning, psychology, risk and intelligence analysis, social sciences, and statistics.
Data Specialists – Specialist roles filled through this stream can include Data Scientists (applied data science, data science developer, data modeller) and Statistical Methodologists (Data Collection Methodologist & Mathematical Stats Specialist). While we consider most degree types, formal qualifications in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, econometrics, actuarial studies, physics, engineering, or other disciplines with a strong quantitative component are required.
Positions are available in all major capital cities in Australia as well as Geelong, Newcastle, and Townsville. In 2024, we are expanding our program to include the regional centres of Ballarat, Griffith, Mildura, Orange, and Traralgon, where limited positions will be available. There is also the opportunity to work in one of the APS Academy Campuses at regional Australian universities in Newcastle, Darwin, Townsville, and Launceston, making it even easier for a grad to start their career in data without having to leave their local community.
