The School of Information and Physical Sciences at the University of Newcastle, Australia is seeking to appoint a Lecturer within the Data Science and Statistics Team. The successful candidate will develop high quality research and deliver excellent teaching in key areas within the Data Science, Mathematics, and Statistics program/discipline areas.

The role requires developing international recognition as an innovator in new Statistical methodologies, with applications to many fields of data analysis. The role requires a person who is comfortable with the development of new theoretical advances and with the translation of new methods in applied research. Women are particularly encouraged to apply for this role as they are under-represented in the School’s academic profile. The position is primarily based at the Callaghan campus in Newcastle. In the role, the Lecturer will:

  • Work cooperatively in research with other members of the School, but also individually in establishing an independent research program to attract undergraduate, Honours, and Higher Degree (Research) students.
  • Work cohesively with the team environment of Data Science and Statistics to strengthen current and future research priorities in the School, the College and the University.
  • Embrace the introduction of new teaching pedagogies (included blended and active learning) to improve the student experience.
  • Collaborate in program quality assurance and improvement to the program offer of the School.
  • Participate in activities to maintain the academic standards and administrative effectiveness within the School.

The remuneration for this position is from Level B, $103,221 to $122,576 plus 17% superannuation. This is a continuing role, based at the Callaghan campus.
