The mathematical sciences have a crucial role to play in national innovation. They have achieved substantial impact in fields as diverse as health sciences, national security, the finance and mining industries, climate science and industrial optimisation.
The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute’s mission is the radical improvement of mathematical sciences capacity and capability in the Australian community. AMSI delivers on its mission through advocacy on behalf of Australia’s mathematical sciences community, and through the delivery of activities under its program areas. These programs fall largely into three areas – school education, research and higher education and engagement with the industrial and commercial world.
In the period 2015 to 2020, AMSI holds government and philanthropic grants in excess of $50m.
With full and associate members comprising most Australian universities and a number of government agencies and mathematics-based societies, AMSI is the leading entity in Australia for promoting the benefits of mathematics to the broader community.
As its next Director, AMSI is seeking an outstanding individual who will provide the leadership required for AMSI to meet its stated mission through:
• strategic management of the three program areas, which cover the entire mathematics pipeline,
• engagement with its membership, government, industry partners, media and the Australian community,
• ensuring the ongoing sustainability of AMSI and the pursuit of external funding from government, industry and other providers so as to enable the expansion of AMSI as an internationally renowned and respected Institute.
AMSI’s premises are located at The University of Melbourne on its Parkville campus.
