Using relative frequencies: part 1
The following example involves taking a sample of fish from the river. The relative frequency can be used to find an estimate of the probability of catching a particular kind of fish.
Question 1
A section of the Murray River had a sample of 165 fish taken from it. The results are shown in the table.
Type of fish | Murray Cod | Callop | Catfish | Perch |
---|---|---|---|---|
Number of fish | 45 | 15 | 60 | 45 |
a What is the relative frequency of obtaining 'Murray Cod or Callop'?
b What is the relative frequency of obtaining 'Perch or Callop or Catfish'?
